The trade show, organised by IFEMA, recorded a significant increase (13%) in the number of international visitors, which came to 1,700 professionals

Sustainable Fashion consolidated itself as a growing sector both in the trade area of the show, which doubled the number of participating companies, and in the MOMAD FORUM, the promotion and training area of the fair, which dedicated a day to content on this subject

The next edition of MOMAD Metrópolis will take place from 7 to 9 September at the same time as MOMAD Shoes, the International Footwear and Accessories Trade Show, and Puericultura Madrid, the International Childhood Products Trade Show, making IFEMA the biggest space dedicated to Women’s, Men’s and Children’s fashion and trends in the Iberian Peninsula

Madrid, 09 February 2018. The fifth edition of MOMAD Metrópolis, the International Fashion Trade Show, organised by IFEMA and held from 2 to 4 February, ended on a positive note and with a good business climate.  More than 15,000 professionals visited, in line with past editions of the fair, despite the snow and low temperatures in Spain that weekend. During the trade show, halls 2, 12 and 14 at IFEMA-Feria de Madrid became the focus for business for the fashion sector, alongside the Bisutex, Intergift and MadridJoya trade shows.

Jaime de la Figuera, the director of MOMAD, highlighted the good business environment at the show.  There was a 13% increase in international visitors compared to the last edition, totalling 1,700, with a significant increase in visitors from Russia, Poland, Italy, Greece, and Ireland. In this regard, De la Figuera pointed out “the good results of the international buyer programme implemented by MOMAD, which has resulted in a significant increase in professionals from the Americas, especially Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile, and Uruguay”.

MOMAD Metrópolis brought together more than 900 brands who presented collections for the upcoming Autumn-Winter 2018/19 season and fast fashion proposals for Spring-Summer 2018.

Growth of Sustainable Fashion and favourable reception of new proposals

MOMAD Metrópolis, February ´18 also demonstrated the growth in Sustainable Fashion at Sustainable Experience, which doubled its presence in relation to the last edition, with a total of 40 exhibiting brands. “We are very satisfied with the steps we have taken in this direction, alongside an increasing trend for firms to emerge with sustainability as part of their DNA and a growing commitment by big brands, which are incorporating new fabrics and sustainable processes in their collections,” said MOMAD's director. Sustainability was also one of the central themes at the MOMAD Forum, and at one of the parades on the MOMAD Catwalk.

It is also worth mentioning how well the new MOMAD 4.0 sector was received. This sector is dedicated to providing digital solutions to the fashion industry and is organised in collaboration with Adigital, the Digital Economy Association.   This new space captured the interest of visitors both because of the information it offered, through talks at the MOMAD Forum, as well as companies' exhibits of the latest technological advances in this field: virtual showrooms, radio-frequency stock control and e-commerce, among other things.

The Show’s new structure was also very well received. The main entrance was through hall 2, where the Event sector was located, giving access to the rest of the fair via a connecting marquee containing the Winter Terrace and MOMAD Catwalk. The ADLIB Fashion show took place there on Friday, with an afterwork party sponsored by the eyewear brand Parafina, made using recycled material.

The final day

The latest key fashion trends for Autumn/Winter 2018/2019 were presented at the MOMAD Forum on Sunday. “Generally speaking, designs will be characterised by a minimalist, retro style, with a growing trend to combine sportswear with workwear, or sport-chic, and there will be a lot of mixing and matching of styles”, said Daniel Domecq from Sartia, a company specialising in Fashion trends.

The Seville School of Fashion rounded out the MOMAD Catwalk with their parade by new flamenco fashion designers, which surprised the audience with innovative proposals.  The students served up a fresh new version of the flamenco dress based on the classic design.

This edition, the two winners, M&L Mirror and Adrián Manceras, were given a free stand to exhibit their designs. The award for best decorated stand went to the brand Cupid Killer.
