Despite or rather because of the dips experienced in exports over the first quarter this year BRAZILIAN FOOTWEAR is revving up its measures for and appearances on the German market.
From January to May 2015 both exports and imports dropped. Over this period 47.8 million pairs of shoes worth US $ 385,400,000 were delivered, which corresponds to a 12.2% decline against 2014. Over the same period imports were down by 10.1% to 16.3 million pairs or US $ 229,300,000 compared to the same period of the previous year. The drops in exports can particularly be attributed to the most important export countries for the Brazilian shoe industry: the United States of America (4.4 million pairs worth $ 68,700,000 were shipped to the US – which corresponds to a 4.8% decrease over the same period in 2014), France (4.57 million pairs for US $ 23,800,000 and a 6.5% drop) and Argentina (posting 1.3 million pairs for US $ 21.36 million and a 16.7% drop).
Positive highlights among the export destinations were the United Arab Emirates where 946,800 pairs were shipped worth US $ 10,400,000; this amounts to a 33.4% increase. Furthermore, Bolivia increased imports from Brazil by 16.5% to 2.8 million pairs worth USD 22 million.
Like Germany and Russia, the United Arab Emirates are among the seven target markets for BRAZILIAN FOOTWEAR, the export promotion programme managed by Abicalçados (Brazilian Shoes) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brazil).
