Leicester College learners showed off their final year shoe collections designed using Delcam CRISPIN software at a fashion exhibition that took place on June 9th in Leicester. The fashion event was held at The Guild Hall in the city and was attended by more than 60 guests. Work on display included designs from learners on the Foundation Footwear Degree course, using CRISPIN’s ShoeMaker software to create their designs.
The learners’ designs were created in the college’s Centre of Excellence Suite that opened in January 2015. The facility is fully equipped with Delcam CRISPIN software and is the only one of its kind in an educational establishment in the UK.
The suite features CRISPIN’s ShoeMaker software that allows learners to create sophisticated yet intuitive footwear designs that can be produced as realistic 3D digital models.

As part of the fashion show, representatives from Delcam presented awards for outstanding achievement to two learners; Nathaniel Francis and Joval Gordon. Nathaniel was inspired by Antoni Gaudi architecture on a footwear trip to Barcelona. On using ShoeMaker he said, “It is very easy to make both simple and complex designs. I would definitely use this software in my future career.”
Joval Gordon drew inspiration from modern worldwide architecture and this was the theme he based his designs on. Joval said, “I went back to using a sketch book to start inspirational artwork and that helped me along the design route.”
The learners’ research, sketches and 3D renders were alongside the finished shoes to demonstrate the work that was undertaken to produce the end product. The exhibition featured creations that included formal footwear for ladies and men’s shoes as well as children’s shoes.
